revisiting ...

brancaia blu 2001 similar notes as earlier samples except this one has developed further ... nose and palate are mo secondary ... things have come together ... bit of raisin/prune midpalate and at the finish. still a BANG! but drink up already.

chateau patache d'aux 2000 this one hadn't changed much ... earlier still BANG!

could not find much decent coffee here!!! weird.
locals do a rather woody, thin and otherwise tasteless brew. alternatively it's spiced ... ginger, cloves etc.

and if you ask for orange juice, it comes hot or warm unless ice is requested ...

clos l'eglise 2003 (cotes de castillon) [merlot led with cab sav and franc plus malbec]
purplish ruby; plum, cherry, bit oaky, someone said chocolate; plum/prune; lotsa firm but fine tannins; juicy acid; medium bodied and length; not complex but quite sleek; BANG!(-)

deciding what's for dinner

torres fransola 2007 (sav blanc) [penedes]
straw; passionfruit, gooseberry, jasmine, white flowers, mint?, someone said lavender?, oak/vanilla (hint); gooseberry, pear, ripe, quite rich, caramel, bit savoury; bit short; 13%; needs to be had well chilled as it became a little flabby and almost chard-like as it warmed up; BANG!(-)

saint cosme chateauneuf du pape 2005 (60% g: 40% m)[24 mths in used wood]

dark ruby with purple tinge; ripe fruit, bluberry, kirsch, bit floral ... someone said lavender, didn't get no soy, meat/funk nor herbs (someone detected herbal nuances); initially smooth ripe fruit ... berries, cherry and plum?, glycolic/almost cloying, round; very little tannins and acid ... urgh ... big bob style?, after about an hour ... things turned for the better (much), fat ass fruit receded a touch, mo tannins ( fine minerally/chalky stuff) and juicy acid surfaced ... that's mo like it, now there's balance methinks, someone said dark choc covered brandied cherries; smooth; medium/big bodied; medium length with a savoury finish; 14.5% ... takes it's toll on ya later; BANG! see older bro ...

dinner on the 5th

1)chateau de st cosme gigondas "le claux" 2006 (100% grenache ... supposedly really old vines ... >100yrs??? ... 30% new wood: 40% 1 yr old: 30% 2 yr old)) [1st vintage as a standalone]

purple almost; berries/plum (unripe), closed/ restrained, green peppercorn, herbal, vanilla ... hint; plum/berries, bit lean now, mineral, someone said meat ... not me; still heaps of furry tannins; nice juicy acid; hardish?/structured; tight/backward ... didn't really open up even after an hour; needs fatty food now (had pork ribs :-)) ... can be refreshing ; medium/big bodied; medium length; for the long term; BANG!. sibling slightly mo complex/approachable now.









2)pierro cab sav/merlot 2001 (cab sav, merlot led and bits of franc, malbec and petit verdot) [margaret river]

ruby; blackcurrent, berries, smoke?, bit of cherry vanilla, bit stalky but not green; aforesaid blackcurrent/some plum (unripe), someone said savoury, mineral; lots of fine tannins; good acid; medium bodied and length; a little lean still, bit simple?; pick up some flesh in a coupla years?; overall still a BANG!(-). pork helped.

alain graillot crozes hermitage 2006 ... notes similar to the earlier sample except that the acid, which was fantastic there is a little less sleek and juicy. still, a great drop.
